Area Descriptions
Communication & Control
Ever wonder how data gets from your cell phone to your friends, how text messages travel 1000s of miles in seconds, the study of communications is the answer. Communications looks at data and the ability to condense it into a smaller package for more efficient transmission and reception. It also applies code theory in order to ensure the accuracy of the data received. With so many signals traveling around eventually something will get lost or corrupted. Luckily, with the advancement of coding algorithms, these errors can be detected and fixed before they cause a problem. These advancements in communications can be applied to many different fields, especially controls. Control theory covers the design and testing or robots, technologic systems, and VLSI.
